Flares, Terms of Use

Effective 2026-05-27

1. What Flares is

Flares is a free visualizer for off-grid, hybrid, and grid-tie solar setups. It helps you lay out components, draw connections, and surface basic configuration issues. It is a planning aid, not a substitute for engineering review.

2. Not professional advice

Output from Flares is not electrical, engineering, fire-safety, or code compliance advice. Solar power systems involve high voltage DC, lithium chemistries, and fault currents that can cause fire, electric shock, severe injury, or death. Before building, modifying, or energizing any real installation you must consult a licensed electrician and follow all applicable national and local codes (e.g. Philippine Electrical Code (PEC) & Philippine Distribution Code (PDC) in the Philippines, NEC in the US, AS/NZS 3000 in AU/NZ, IEC 60364, and any local AHJ requirements).

3. As-is, no warranty

The software is provided "AS IS" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of validation rules, completeness of component data, or non-infringement. Component presets, ratings, and diagnostics may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect.

4. Assumption of risk

You assume full responsibility for any decisions, purchases, wiring, or installations based on output from Flares. You agree that any real-world build will be independently verified by a qualified professional before energizing.

5. Get your setup validated before you build

Flares is designed to help you plan, share, and iterate on a blueprint — not to approve one. Before you buy components, run cables, or energize anything, take the exported diagram, component list, and wire specs to a licensed electrician, professional electrical engineer (PEE/REE in the Philippines), or qualified solar installer. They can verify conductor sizing, overcurrent protection, grounding, bonding, disconnect placement, PV string limits, battery enclosure requirements, and any utility interconnection or permit obligations that apply where you live.

Sharing your setup (via the share link or an exported PNG/JSON) is encouraged precisely so a professional can review and sign off on it. Flares does not endorse, employ, or vet any electrician or engineer; choose someone licensed and insured in your jurisdiction, and keep their stamped/signed plan as the authoritative reference for the actual build.

6. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the maintainer shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including property damage, fire, injury, death, lost data, or financial loss, arising from use of, or inability to use, Flares.

7. Your data

Setups you create are stored locally in your browser. If you sign in and save to the cloud, your setup data and account email are stored on a self-hosted PocketBase instance operated by the maintainer. You can delete your account or setups at any time.

8. Acceptable use

Don't use Flares to attack the service, reverse engineer security, or upload unlawful content. The maintainer may suspend accounts that abuse the service.

9. Changes

These terms may be updated. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. Material changes will prompt re-acceptance on next visit.
